Book Review: Selina Lake’s, Winter Living…

Littlegreenshed Blog Selina Lake Winter Living book

Winter – cold grey days spent huddled next to a radiator.  Wishing it was Spring.  Winter always sends me into a panic, those blues really do go on forever.  But surely it doesn’t have to be like this?  Surely, every season should be celebrated and loved for what it brings.  I am determined to keep my head up this coming Winter, and not to descend into doom and gloom come January.

With this in mind, I was eagerly anticipating the newly released book ‘Winter Living’ by Selina Lake.  Please, please help!  Oh and it does… pages upon pages of beautiful images by the talented Debi Treloar which compliment Selina’s brilliant interior styling and design tips.

I love how it is set out, initially detailing things to do and look forward to in the colder months, like bringing out cosy textiles and using candles and winter blooms and foliage.  Followed by more detailed chapters on different interior styles from Rustic to Homespun to Scandi modern and ways to display and love your Winter home.

The book contains the homes of many people I personally follow on Instagram.  Recognising their homes and style.  Now having a book to hold and cherish which features such inspiring interiors is really rather special, I can see myself coming back to this book time and time again for inspiration.

I am already thinking of sourcing some bright pink candles, glass bottles and changing cushions and textiles to warmer, rich shades and textures.  Velvets, plums, aubergine, rich greens and blues… jewel tones to cosy up in.

I love getting nice and cosy in autumn and winter: wrapping up in layers of knitwear, wearing my favourite faux fur lined desert boots, snuggling up on the sofa or in bed amongst piles of blankets and pillows, cooking hearty meals for groups of friends, foraging in autumn then making sloe gin that I enjoy all through the winter, and nights in with friends playing board games by the wood burning stove.

    finger’s crossed!
