Sometimes life throws you a handful of fairy dust, covers you with glitter and rose petals and says – ‘hey, fancy living your dream?’ – it really does happen, as it happened to my pal Emma. You may already know her, she is the writer behind the beautiful blog, Bradshaw & Sons. Emma, her family (Pete and the boys) have up sticks and moved into a country pub – to fulfil that life long dream of running their own rural business in Gloucestershire.
Dan and I were so completely excited by the news and couldn’t wait to make their pub our family ‘local’ (yes, we are ignoring at our local pub will be an hours drive away!) – but you know what I mean. The pub, The Daneway, has been recently refurbished by the brewery, ready for Emma and Pete to take up the reigns and start running the place.
The Daneway is nestled in a leafy green valley, right on the Wysis way footpath. A perfect stopping off point for walkers to have lunch or a drink. The field below has been mowed, ready for the campsite and later in the year a shepherds hut will be permanently installed in the meadow, so watch this space for updates on that and how to go about booking.
Last week, Emma & Pete, invited us up for a menu tasting. Large sharing enamel bowls of delicious chilli, served in enamel mugs. Huge scotch eggs, pea & mint hummus with crudites and chips. The whole thing was outstandingly good, simple honest food. Perfect for feeding hungry families.
My two boys made friends with Emma’s boys and Tom Herberts girls – and we could hear crazy games and shrieks of laughter coming up from behind the hedge in the camping field below the pub garden. Rufus was already planning his next trip back – wanting to explore the old canal walk and the pony field to the side.
Full of delicious food, Laura and I wandered the lanes taking pictures of the greenery and planning many a summer trip out to visit Emma. Picnics and camping, can’t wait!
