Simple Living // Kitchen make-over and inspiration…

kitchen inspiration make over

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen little sneaky peeks on Instagram stories of our kitchen remodel.  Our kitchen was knocked through from the dining room, into the kitchen and downstairs bathroom nearly 10 years ago, just before Rufus was born.

At the time, the budget was very limited.  We chose the cheapest floor tiles, and a standard white Ikea kitchen with oak butchers block work tops.

10 years later our kitchen is looking very tired, hence the reason of me showing only the pretty shelf! So, we are updating it.  Still with a limited budget, but making it uniquely ours.  Changing the cupboard doors, updating the floor tiles and adding in decorative vintage touches.  I can’t wait to share all – but at the moment, the kitchen is a huge mess!  So instead here are a few images that are inspiring me right now.

We are going for a white, wood and brass theme.  With a little bit of grey.  Dan is replacing our worktops with reclaimed scaffold board worktops.  I’ve chosen a new ceramic sink from Ikea and brass tap from Ebay.

The door fronts will be a mix of grey and natural wood, in a shaker tongue and groove style, with a mix of brass door handles and holes to open the doors.

The floor has been already half laid, we have chosen a Moroccan style porcelain tile from Mandarin Stone, which already adds so much light to the space.

It is taking longer than I thought, as Dan and I are chipping away at it on days we aren’t working… but I can’t wait to share it with you!  In the meantime please follow our remodel on my instagram.

Collaboration Note:  Thank you to Mandarin Stone for collaborating with us on our kitchen remodel.  Thank you for supporting the posts that make this blog possible.

  • Oh wow! The inspiration for your kitchen is beautiful, so I’m really excited to see what the real deal looks like.

White, wood and brass (with a little bit of grey) sounds like my idea of heaven – not too ‘trendy’ either (and I mean that in a nice way; it’s incredibly stylish but it’s hopefully not something that will scream 2017 in a few years).

I’m hoping to buy my first house this year and its the kitchen I’m most excited about getting stuck into… on a very limited budget!
